The volumen comprises eleven essays on current social issues and situations in Sarawak. The issues explored in the chapters are on deviance, disability, health, urbanisation, identity, indigenous community and post-colonialism. They are studied through the engagement of social scientific paradigms that framed the question and explaination raise in the respective chapters. Interesting though is the recurring preoccupation with agenda of giving voice to the less visible actors or the undersides in social relations that merely underlined the asymmetrical power, equity and opportunity available for disadvantaged groups. Researchers and students of social sciences will find the works here illuminating and relevent for understanding present state of social research on Sarawak in the contemporary context of a rethinking of modernity and representation.
